A Well Crafted Lady

Six Tips for Picking a Party Outfit:

Finding the perfect party outfit is as big of a deal to me as crafting the perfect party. Maybe it was just a weird thing that was instilled in me at a young age… but, special events got special consideration for outfits. Growing up I got a new outfit for every Easter, birthday, Christmas  and first day of school. When I was older and dating my husband, I would wear a new or newly styled outfit at every date we had. I don’t think he saw me wear the same outfit twice until we had been dating for a year. Now, I believe you NEED to buy a new outfit for each and every special event. It just isn’t practical. However, I do whole-heartily believe in putting a little extra thought into special-occasion wear. The below tips are what I think about when considering a party dress or outfit:

I’m an average, every day girl with a lot of interests. Part of my blog rebranding is to incorporate more of the everyday things in life worth celebrating. While I don’t consider myself super fashionable or trendy, I do love fashion, makeup, and hair-styling. You’ll be seeing more and more posts about fashion and beauty. I will still be posting plenty of parties… but, you’ll also get a little glimpse into the everyday (and special occasion) beauty and fashion secrets of an average lady. Hopefully they will inspire you or at least entertain. 🙂

Lately it has been a challenge for me to get dressed most days. I often opt for sleep rather than getting up and showering before my son’s very early waking hour. I wait until nap time to shower and change, unless I have work to finish. Embarrassingly often, I’ll still be unshowered and in my yoga pants until my husband gets home in the afternoon.

Disclaimer: I received a free pair of Cushe shoes to review for this post and one pair to give away to my readers. All opinions are my own.

When I do get dressed, I’ve learned to stick with a pretty simple mom-uniform… or momiform. I slide on a pair of jeans and a fitted T-shirt and go from there. This week I styled my blue jeans and black t-shirt 4 different ways. It is perfect for going around the house, to out for groceries, to an evening dinner by just changing things like shoes and accessories.

The above photos (taken by my pal Macey) show how I would style my momiform for heading out to groceries or running errands. I paired my jeans and tee with a purple cardigan, fun necklace, and a pair Cushe shoes. I’ve been pairing these shoes with everything lately because they are so comfortable, yet with the black sparkle they are still interesting and cute.

The dapper little man sported a blazer, purple pocket square, solid polo, and his skinny jeans for one of  the #7daysofstyle outfits. I’ll be sharing all of his little outfits sometime soon!

Outfit details:

Mommy: Black fitted Mosimo Tee via Target // skinny jeans via JCPenney // Old Navy Boyfriend Cardi in Brite Nite // Old Navy necklace (in store only—last season) //  Cushe Re:Vive in Black Metallic
Toddler: solid polo via Target // Cherokee Infant/Toddler Blazer via Target // Pocket Square- handmade by me // Skinny Jeans via Target // Denim Newsboy Cap via H&M (in store) // Shoes are Vans, but super old as they have been passed on from family to family — normally I’d choose not to pair Vans with this outfit. But, the boy loves these shoes.

Excuse the dirt on the toes… I told ya, I wear them ALL THE TIME!

More about Cushe:

Cushe Footwear (pronounced Cushy) is a UK based footwear company that approached me to see what I thought of their shoes. Cushe has styles for men and women. I am usually pretty wary of ordering shoes online (bad fit, doesn’t look right in person, etc.) However, the whole ordering and delivery process was great and my expectations were met with my order with Cushe. I ordered the Re:Vive shoe in black metallic from the Urban Safari collection.  I ordered my normal shoe size and there were slightly on the larger side when I first put them on. However, now they are my most comfy shoes. So, I don’t know if my feet grew or if they needed to settle in.
