A Well Crafted Life

Category

This weekend I had some much needed down time. Last week was insane at work and I couldn’t seem to get a moment to work on anything blog related much less see my kiddos. In the midst of the errand running and general hanging out with the family that I did, I also got to spend a couple of hours prepping for Halloween. Our comic book themed Halloween party is starting to come together! (Now that my Felicity Smoak costume is complete I’m moving on to party decorations.)

My week/weekend in snapshots:

I had to add in this photo because it is just too fun. Our work had our yearly conference this year in which I take a big part in putting together. We always go ALL OUT with our theme and this year’s theme was Rock and Roll. I pretty much want purple hair and a tattoo sleeve now.

The party prep has involved cutting up a lot of old comic books I found while thrifting. We used the comic books to decorate tags, cups, juices, and more.

The biggest project I tackled this weekend was creating LARGE paintings of comic characters. I utilized a projector to help guide the paintings. I first drew the outline and then painted in the large sections of color and then finished the details. My son even got in on the painting!

I got a lot done this weekend, but I still have lots more to do to be ready for this next weekend.

Are you ready for Halloween? If so, what are you planning on doing for the holiday?

October never, ever fails to be my busiest month of the year. Even December’s crazy schedule doesn’t quite come close to the amount of things packed into October. After two weeks of traveling for work I am starting to finally catch up with things like housework, meal planning, and blog posts. Of course, my next two weeks of work promise to be even crazier… so, hopefully I don’t lose ground on all the other projects in the works.

Onto the fun stuff… every October we have four MUST DO events each year. We go to the pumpkin patch. We attend the Portland Apple Festival. We have a craft night to prep for our annual Halloween party and then we have our annual Halloween party.

Last weekend we got to enjoy the pumpkin patch with friends. This weekend we painted the pumpkins to get them ready for our comic book themed Halloween party.

My hiatus from the blog was unintentional, but necessary. My normal work week entails a daily grind from 8 am to 5 pm, quick dinner with the family, clean up (sometimes), and then opening up my computer to work on the blog. My weekends are filled with a mix of family and blog work. This week however I had a work trip. My days entailed 12 to 14 HARD working hours and at the end of the day when I finally got to the hotel all I could think of was Netflix and bed. This weekend was spent entirely with my boys, family, and friends. I only opened my computer for an hour. This next week is looking to be similar since I have another work trip coming up. Busy, busy, busy.

I left the Portland airport at super early in the morning on Tuesday last week. I had to take an obligatory #pdxcarpet photo of course. Don’t mind my ragged looking shoes. These are my favorite work flats and boy are they getting worn.

The trip didn’t start out wonderfully. We had to wait for two hours for our rental car (one we had reserved) and it ended up being a bit of a dud. The next day it got a flat tire which ended up with us sitting at a tire shop next to this lovely establishment (pictured). Thankfully there was somehow a really amazing independent coffee shop right next to the tire shop. Why I took a photo of the run down inn rather than the amazing coffee shop? I have no clue. If you’re in Aurora, Colorado I highly suggest Jubilee Roasting Company.
