Inspiration

Category

I’ve been dreaming about invitations lately. My first party love… beautiful invitations. They set the tone for the event. They get people excited.

Lately I’ve been terrible about invitations. I made up special, hand printed ones for my son’s 1st birthday and NEVER sent them out. For shame. Snail mail and I have not been getting along lately. I haven’t sent out the pile of thank you cards that I have written, my packages are going out late, and I am pretty sure my brother’s Christmas gift from last year is hiding in a closet somewhere.

My terrible recent track record with the mail aside… I have been seeing some amazing invitations lately. Just wanted to share some of the inspiration with you.

(I love sharing inspiration, but have not done so recently because I don’t like seeing other people’s work being pinned from my site. I like credit to go where credit is due. So, please… if inspired and want to pin just hit the link below the photo to go to the site it came from! Thanks so much!)

1. Check out these amazing coaster invitations from Ross Clodfelter Design featured on Design Work Life. How clever is that!? I love the idea that your future party (or wedding) guests can be reminded about your event every time they go to put their drink down.  And, hello… so useful!

2. White foil on white with a pop of bright pink. I’m in love. Invite available via Digby Rose.

3. This invitation just screams, “PARTY!” to me. Love everything about it… especially that it is a DIY project featured on Style Me Pretty.

4. And, what amazing invitation could be complete without an equally fabulous envelope. I am dying over the awesomeness of Lindsay Letters’ envelopes. Check out that cute little bow tie under the T up there!

What is the most memorable invitation you have given or received? I’d love to read about it or see it! Either drop a description or link in the comments or post a picture on the Facebook wall.

I love Halloween. It is seriously my all time favorite holiday. I love the fantasy of it all. The make believe. I’m not too big of a fan of the horror or gore side… although, it can be fun for decor options. But, the dressing up, and the creativity that just permeates the holiday makes me incredibly excited as September rolls around and the leaves start changing.

Every year we throw a huge Halloween party. We spend months and months scheming and planning. This year, with our move and other stresses, we have decided to not go crazy. I’m sad about it. Really (probably unreasonably so) sad about it. But, hopefully I’ll get to take this year to spend planning out an even bigger and more awesome event for next Halloween.

I wanted to reminisce a bit on the past Halloweens before swamping the blog with a bunch of awesome inspiration for this year’s holiday. I have thousands of great Halloween memories. But, I wanted to share just a few with you.

My top 5 past Halloween memories:

1. My First Halloween with my Son!

I got his adorable Lion costume via Costumes 4 Less

2. Our Costumes

We had fun “couple” costumes for the past few years.
These two are my all time favorites:

Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Hare
Circus Family: Clown, Ring Leader, and a Lion

3. Mad Tea Party Backdrop

I spent a LONG time working on this backdrop. And, overall it was my favorite part of the Mad Tea Party. It even got a fan who did one for her own party!

4. Spider Wall

Spiders creep me out more than anything else. So, when I have a chance to decorate with spooky items I always go for the spider decor. Last year we created a huge spider nest along one wall.
Man, was it creepy.

5. Haunted Halloween Dinner Party Menu

I really, really love creating a good menu. And, Halloween is no exception. I had a blast creating a menu for the Haunted Halloween Dinner Party.

I really, really try to like neon.
I do. But, most the time it reminds me of this:
Old photo of me sporting neon tie-dye
or this:
Hubby sporting neon when he was younger. He had just scraped up his face pretty bad in a bike accident…boys, eh?
But, there are some people out there doing neon right.
I applaud the following for making neon look good:
1. This neon polkadot lunch sac via A Fabulous Fete is awesome. Of course, anything A Fabulous Fete does is awesome—check out her Summer Etsy product shoot in all its bright-colored goodness.
2. These neon beer bottles turned vases are so bright and cheery. Hey, they may even glow in the dark so you can see your pretty flowers at night as well! (disclaimer: probably don’t actually glow in the dark)
3. Cupcakes and Cutlery makes neon look like SO much fun. Her “Neon & Neutral So Glad You Were Born” party is such a fabulous idea for a birthday party.
4. The above party was also featured on Hostess with the Mostess blog….where I also found an awesome Neon & Radical 80’s themed 30th birthday bash. Celebrating a milestone birthday with a party based on the decade they were born– totally rad. Also on HWTM— “He Makes My Heart Glow: Neon Bridal Shower” which not only has a great, original theme, but also uses the neon trend with washi tape and gold fringe banners. This party is more than a little bit trendy and I love it.
5. Then, there are some of my real-life blogging buddies pulling off neon in such a stylish and fashionable way that I’ve been thinking I need some in my closet once again (might stay away from the tie-dyed variety though):
  • Check out Sam’s awesome neon-licious outfit utilizing a skinny neon belt paired with a neon top.  Or, her guest post over at Freckled Fashionista showing how to bring neon details into an outfit without going over the top.
  • Sarah pulls off wearing neon and looking polished and professional… which I never thought would be a feasible thing. Funky? definitely. Sweet? Possibly. Trendy? If done right. Ridiculous? If done wrong. But, professional and polished? Never thought it would happen, but she does it right. She also has great tips on how to wear neon without looking like a glow stick.
So, how about you… are you feeling neon?
